Creating Belonging in Queensland Schools
Multicultural Queensland in partnership with the Queensland Department of Children, Youth Justice and Multicultural Affairs is launching The Culture Collective today at Cleveland District High School.
Chief Executive Officer for Multicultural Australia, Christine Castley said:

“Our organisation exists to creating welcome, celebrate diversity, and foster inclusion, and this program is a fantastic way of developing these perspectives with young adults, as future leaders of our great country.”
The Culture Collective is a program that will support schools to achieve diversity and inclusion outcomes, is founded on evidence-based best practice, and has been developed with students, for students.”
“Through storytelling, role plays, and other interactive learning activities, we hope to encourage the pilot 20 schools to build on their existing inclusion and diversity curricula, encourage positive connections, and create welcome in their communities.” Ms Castley says.
The Culture Collective represents a strong commitment by both Multicultural Australia and the Queensland Government to encourage connections and ensure schools are inclusive and safe spaces for everyone.
Speaking at the launch of The Culture Collective at Cleveland District High School, Minister for Multicultural Affairs Leanne Linard commended the initiative.
“This program is an excellent example of ‘inclusion in action’. It gives young people the tools they need to challenge racism and other forms of discrimination and bullying,” Ms Linard said.
“Communities thrive when we work together to make sure everyone is supported to take their place in the world and contribute their many skills.”The Culture Collective will host its first program at Cleveland District State High School in early November and will be facilitated in other Queensland schools until August 2022.
School principals are invited to register their interest for the program to be delivered at their school as part of the pilot.
